On May 20, an article was published on 𝘉𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 – first authors A. Carosi and L. Talarico, with the contribution of the entire partnership of the STREAMS project – dedicated to the conservation of Mediterranean trout.
The study proposes a national strategy that considers the entire range of the species and underlines the value of a multilevel genetic-ecological approach for the management of species subject to strong pressure, such as salmonids.
The results also highlight the importance of protected areas in detecting, recovering and conserving residual native populations, often vulnerable to human impacts. A model that could be extended to other species with similar management challenges.
