At the Maiella National Park, #STREAMS activities continue for the protection of fish fauna and river habitats.
In the Gole San Venanzio Regional Nature Reserve, 23 trout breeders were taken and moved to the Experimental Ichthyogenic and Hydrobiology Center of the Abruzzo Region.
The operation – carried out by the technical-scientific staff of the Park together with Aquaprogram s.r.l. and to the volunteers of the Universal Civil Service – it was necessary not so much to numerically increase the stock of spawners belonging to our Mediterranean trout, but above all to improve their genetic diversity with wild individuals.
After the appropriate genetic analyzes, the individuals taken from the Aterno river will be used in the imminent breeding season to produce eggs, fry and trout that will repopulate the project rivers.
