On Tuesday 6 October, the technical-operational staff of the Casentinesi Forest National Park – together with the FIPS and AICS associations of Forlì and the Forestry Carabinieri of the Biodiversity Department of Pratovecchio – carried out the sampling in the Bidente di Ridracoli basin, in two sites near the Integral Natural Reserve of Sasso Fratino, the first to be established in Italy in 1959 and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.
About 150 trout were sampled, with several specimens of truly remarkable size compared to the average found in these small streams. The 30 cm specimen shown in the photo had just ingested a red frog!
