Last Friday, as part of our project, Forestas organized a selective catch&release fishing evening in Rio Fundu di Monti, in Tempio Pausania.
3 sport fishermen participated who fished until about 9 pm using low impact techniques (barbless hooks, artificial baits, rubber landing nets). Indeed, the goal is to move towards the sustainability of fishing in wild populations.
3 trout were captured, photographed, sampled for genetic analysis and released at the capture site as apparently native.
The population of Rio Fundu di Monti has a hybridization rate classifiable as “medium” and morphologically distinguishing native trout from hybrid ones is quite difficult. Furthermore, the genetic analyzes already conducted suggest caution, since in wild hybrid populations which have been adapting to the local context for a longer time, there are no unmistakable morphological characteristics which allow a certain distinction from allochthonous ones.
