Our project, together with IdroLife, participated in the networking event organized by the LIFE NatSalmo project from 18 to 19 January in Molise.
Massimo Lorenzoni and Diego Mattioli became spokespersons for Streams and on the first day dedicated to presentations they shared the project objectives and the ways to achieve them with the other participants: a comparison from which many points of contact emerged and which led to to a fruitful exchange of good practices.
The second day of networking took place almost entirely on the rivers: first at the Rocchetta a Volturno hatchery and then on the banks of the Biferno, at Oratino, where Natsalmo’s technical-scientific staff carried out the in situ fertilization of Mediterranean trout eggs by means of cryopreserved seed.
Finally, upon returning to Unimol, all the phases of the semen cryopreservation protocol were illustrated in the cryobank laboratories.
We thank the Life Natsalmo Project for these days of exchange and comparison between different expertise that have enriched us a lot. In particular, the cryopreserved seed bank of pure Mediterranean trout seems to be truly a key element for the efficient management of hatcheries. We hope to be able to give back the experience by organizing a #STREAMS networking soon!
